There is a number of endemic and non-endemic species and subspecies of antelopes as well as giraffes and buffalos relevant to the Antelope Specialist Group - Northeast African Subgroup.

We would like to point out that there are different opinions concerning the taxonomy of ungulates! With this website we generally follow the taxonomy used by the IUCN. But in addition, each species description contains recent synonyms described by Groves C & Grubb P (2011) and Wilson D E & Mittermeier R A (2011), if existing.

We are well aware of the newly founded IUCN/SSC Giraffe and Okapi Specialist Group as an important address for facts about giraffes and giraffe conservation. However, for completeness we continue to list facts about the Northeast African giraffes on this homepage as well.

Please choose your tree of interest below to gain further information on the specific animals.
