Description
Total length: 105 - 150 cm
Tail length: 19 - 25 cm
Shoulder height: 61 - 100 cm
Weight: (f) 24 - 60 kg, (m) 30 - 80 kg
Gestation: ~ 6 months

It's a small to medium-sized antelope with horns up to 55 cm. These are shaped like a lyre. Female bushbocks and young are mainly red and females become progressively darker with sexual maturity and age. Both sexes and all ages have a white underside to the broad, woolly tail, white flashes above black hooves and white markings on face and ears.

T. s. decula: N Ethiopia, Eritrea
T. s. meneliki: S Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan

Ecology
This species is water-dependent and therefor never far from water. Bushbuck are browsers and prefer leaves of shrubs and herbs.

Trend:
The bushbuck is abundant in protected regions in Ethiopia, like Bale Mountains, Nechisar National Parks and the South-western parts. It also occurs in smaller numbers in the eastern part of Ethiopia, such as riverine habitat in Ogaden.
